Casper Review: Is the Original Bed-in-a-Box Still Worth It in 2026?
Casper now belongs to a foam manufacturer, sells six adult mattresses and runs a 100-night trial with a catch at the start, so we read the fine print and the complaints.

Verdict, fast
- The One, the all-foam entry model, is the smart buy here: a Queen lists at $1,149 and is usually discounted below that.
- The 100-night trial starts at delivery, but Casper will not schedule a mattress pickup until you have slept on it for 30 nights.
- Shipping by UPS is free in the contiguous US, while in-home setup costs $249 and old-mattress removal through LoadUp costs $150.
- Trustpilot scores Casper 2.0 out of 5, with recent reviewers describing missed return pickups and slow refunds, and the brand had not replied to them.
- Pillows, sheets and the Glow lights draw noticeably weaker owner ratings on Casper’s own pages than the mattresses do.
Beacon Score

The picks

The One $1,149
Casper’s cheapest adult mattress and the one with by far the most owner reviews.
Three layers of foam: an open-cell top layer, a zoned memory foam layer that is firmer under the hips, and a dense base. Casper rates it medium-firm and says it suits stomach sleepers best, which makes sense for an all-foam bed with no coils. On the product page it carries a 4.4 average from nearly eighteen thousand reviews, and Casper cites a Consumer Reports top rating among all-foam beds. Owners who run hot should look elsewhere in the range; foam holds warmth.
- Best for
- Stomach and back sleepers on a budget
- Weak spot
- All-foam build sleeps warmer than the hybrids

Dream $1,995
The entry hybrid adds pocketed coils and an edge, and earns the range’s best average score.
Dream pairs Casper’s responsive foam with individually wrapped coils and three zones of firmer support under the lower back. Casper calls the feel medium, and the product page shows a 4.5 average across several thousand reviews, the highest of any Casper mattress. It is the bed for couples and combination sleepers who want more bounce and a firmer perimeter than The One offers. The cooling QuickCool cover is an extra-cost upgrade, not standard, so the base price buys the plain knit cover.
- Best for
- Couples and combination sleepers
- Weak spot
- Cooling cover costs extra at this price

Snow $2,720
The memory-foam hybrid built for people who wake up hot.
Snow is Casper’s answer to the memory foam heat problem: a cool-to-the-touch cover, a cooling coating on the top foam, breathable memory foam, zoned support and pocketed coils over a firm foam edge. Casper pitches it to back and side sleepers who like a hug rather than a bounce. The claims about cooling for twelve hours come from Casper, not independent measurement. Its list price is more than double The One, and Casper notes memory foam models can take up to three days to fully expand.
- Best for
- Hot sleepers who like a conforming feel
- Weak spot
- Steep list price for a mid-range spec

Dream Max $3,370
The most supportive model, aimed at side sleepers with hip or back aches.
Dream Max adds a second zoned layer, with seven channels cut into the memory foam, to the Dream’s responsive foam and coil base. Casper says the Max models carry an American Chiropractic Association endorsement, which is a marketing credential rather than a clinical one. Its 4.3 average from a couple of thousand reviews is a notch below the plain Dream. Talk to a clinician about persistent pain; a mattress is not treatment. At this price, Casper competes with established showroom brands, so wait for a sale.
- Best for
- Side sleepers wanting maximum zoned support
- Weak spot
- Rated lower than the cheaper Dream

Original Pillow $75
A pillow-in-a-pillow design that is the most reviewed Casper accessory by a wide margin.
The Original Pillow uses an inner down-alternative core inside a softer outer pillow, which lets it keep some loft while staying squashable. Casper’s page shows a 4.1 average from over eleven thousand reviews, solid but not spectacular, and it sits at the cheaper end of the pillow range. The warranty is one year and excludes normal softening and settling, so do not expect a replacement when it flattens. Unused pillows can go back within 30 days, which rules out a sleep test.
- Best for
- Back sleepers who want medium loft
- Weak spot
- Returns only if unused, so no trial

Percale Sheet Set
A Queen set lists at $139, and the product page shows a 3.8 average from several hundred reviews, the weakest score we found on a core Casper product. Specialist bedding brands sell percale with better owner ratings for similar money. Casper’s soft goods can only be returned unused in original packaging, so if the hand feel disappoints after the first wash you are stuck with them.
Glow Light
The Glow is a portable dimming lamp meant to ease you into sleep, priced at $129 for one or $249 for two. Its 3.7 average on Casper’s own page is the lowest we saw on the site, and a bedside lamp with a timer does much of the same job. It also gets only a 30-night return window, not the mattress trial.
Casper versus two rivals
Two brands a shopper is likely to be weighing at the same time. Words only; the numbers change too often to print.
| Row | Casper | Purple | Tuft & Needle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Range | Six adult mattresses in foam and hybrid, plus pillows, sheets, frames and a dog bed | Grid-topped mattresses from an entry foam bed to luxury hybrids, plus pillows and bases | A short list: three mattresses, a few pillows, sheets and simple furniture |
| Price position | Mid-market to premium, with near-constant sale pricing below list | Mid-market at entry, climbing into luxury territory at the top | The cheapest of the three, with fewer upgrades to tempt you |
| Returns | Free pickup within a hundred nights, but only after the first thirty | Hundred-day window after twenty-one nights, with transport charges deducted from refunds | Hundred nights on every product, limited to one return per household per year |
| Standout | Range breadth and US stores where you can lie on the beds first | The stretchy polymer grid that feels unlike any foam mattress | Simplicity: few models, one trial length across everything |

What people ask about Casper
Can I return a Casper mattress in the first 30 nights?
No. Casper’s trial page says mattress returns are available only after the first 30 nights, which it calls an adjustment period, and up to night 100. Casper also warns that a mattress left boxed for too long after delivery may lose return eligibility, so unbox it promptly.
Does Casper charge for mattress returns?
Casper’s returns FAQ says there are no restocking, pickup or processing fees, and the purchase price is refunded to your original payment method. The $249 in-home delivery fee is not refunded, and reviewers on Trustpilot describe pickups that were missed or slow to schedule, so keep records.
Who owns Casper now?
Carpenter Co., a large polyurethane foam manufacturer, bought Casper in late 2024 after the company went private. Casper’s Canadian business was sold separately, and its European operations closed in 2020. The US site states its mattresses are designed and assembled in America.
Will a Casper mattress work on my old box spring?
Casper says no. Its mattresses need a solid or slatted base, with slats at least 2.5 inches wide and no more than 4.5 inches apart, or an adjustable base. The warranty excludes sagging caused by an unsupportive foundation, so this matters beyond comfort.
Should I remove the Casper mattress cover to clean it?
No. Casper’s FAQ says, in bold, not to remove the cover for cleaning or for any other reason. Spot-clean with water and a little mild detergent, avoid soaking the foam, and let it dry fully. Casper suggests a waterproof protector as the easier way to keep the mattress clean.
Bottom line
Casper still makes sensible mattresses, and The One and Dream are the two we would shortlist. The company around them is the weak spot: a trial that locks you in for the first month, extras that cost real money, and a pile of recent complaints about pickups and refunds that went unanswered. Buy on a sale, unbox immediately, document everything, and treat the accessories as optional.
